
Mario Picazo
He has a degree in Geography and Mathematics from the University of New Mexico (USA) and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences and Geography from the University of California (Los Angeles – USA).
He has specialised in climate change and extreme weather.
He is currently Assistant Professor in the Departments of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and Geography at UCLA. He has developed his research primarily on future climate scenarios and the effect they will have on crop yields in different areas of the world. He is also interested in the impact climate change is having on extreme events like drought and wildfires.
In the last 20 years, Mario has also participated actively in various media as a presenter in different sections and also as a Weatherman. Firstly, as a Weatherman and as director of the Weather Department in the communication group Mediaset España, one of Spain’s main communication groups. The latter part of his television media career saw him work on climate-related programmes and documentaries for TVE, Spain's National Public Television Network. In the United States, he has also collaborated as a weather expert for the Weather Channel, in the “Tornado Alley” television series. He currently works as a weather expert for Pelmorex Media, one of the leading weather media companies in North America and Spain, with important weather products such as eltiempo.es, the weather network and clima.com, and collaborates with numerous media outlets in Spain.
